Dr. Avi Weisfogel transforms sleep apnea treatment model

Dr. Avi Weisfogel, the founder of Dental Sleep Masters, has been instrumental in the treatment of sleep apnea. This insidious and poorly understood disease has long plagued populations across the globe. Today, thanks to Dr. Weisfogel, medicine is many steps closer to the complete eradication of this scourge from the face of the Earth.

The Great Killer Chameleon

Many diseases have been given the name The Great Imitator. These diseases share signs and symptoms with other, usually less malignant diseases. This makes them particularly difficult to diagnose and very dangerous, as in the case with diseases like pancreatic cancer, because any delay in treatment leads to almost certain death.

Similarly, sleep apnea might be termed the Great Killer Chameleon. Rather than merely taking on the signs and symptoms of various lethal diseases, it actually takes their form. People with long-standing sleep apnea are all but guaranteed to actually develop disease states like heart attack, stroke, diabetes and kidney failure. Once these diseases set in, it’s generally too late to treat the underlying sleep apnea.

Making things even worse, until Dr. Avi Weisfogel’s program began changing the way that this terrible ailment is diagnosed, over 90 percent of sufferers didn’t even know they had the disease. Since untreated sleep apnea is tantamount to a death sentence, these patients could benefit enormously from early diagnosis and intervention through aggressive oral appliance therapy.

Dr. Weisfogel realized that there was a potentially huge market that was being virtually ignored by the medical establishment. Through his innovative seminars and courses, Dr. Weisfogel has taught dentists the early warning signs, symptoms and risk factors for sleep apnea. These include such seemingly benign complaints as excessive fatigue, advanced age and excess adiposity of the neck area. Certain abnormalities of mouth structures such as the larynx and trachea can also predispose patients to this fatal disorder.

Having enlightened hundreds of dentists, Dental Sleep Masters has also led to millions of dollars in new oral appliance sales. Some dentists have had such success with the sleep dentistry model that they’ve actually been able to quit their dental practices to focus on sleep medicine.

Avi Weisfogel: The One Kind of Dentist

These days, so many dentists have an assembly line type of business. They want to get the patients in, get them out, and that is that. They might care, but they are more focused on getting as many people in as possible to make the most amount of money. However, that is not Avi Weisfogel. He cares about each and every patient that enters his office. He doesn’t make them wait around forever or sit around for a long period of time, waiting for him. He knows that when he sets up an appointment, it is important to keep it.  He explains everything in a way they can understand and feel comfortable with, so they know exactly what is happening and nothing is a mystery.

However, one thing that should be getting more attention in regards to Avi Weisfogel is his GoFundMe Campaign set up with Operation Smile, an international medical charity providing free surgical procedures for children. This way, they don’t have to worry for one second about the money. Many children don’t get things done because their parents can’t afford it and things happen to their teeth that sometimes can’t be fixed because it is too late. Now, it can be fixed right away as opposed to later in life. Why wait to get it done? The time is now and with Operation Smile, you can get it done now and not have to wait any longer.

This also applies to young adults that are battling cleft palate, cleft lips and other facial deformities. The goal is set at $2,000. However, I have a very strong feeling with Avi in charge, it is only going to grow and grow. Avi said in a recent interview that every child deserves to have a bright future. After all, the children are the ones that are going to be our leaders and be put in important positions. Because of this, it is important to take care of them now as opposed to later.
