OSI Industries has been a leader in meat manufacturing for many years. It began as a family-owned organization in the early 1900s. Otto Kolshowsky started Otto and Sons with his family in the Chicago area. Over the years Otto and Sons developed a reputation for being an efficient supplier of meat to other food industry organizations in the region. By the 1950s Otto’s children were running the business and the company was thriving.
Otto Kolshowsky’s children developed a relationship with Ray Kroc. Kroc was running the McDonald’s Corporation at the time. Their business relationship immediately grew strong. Otto and Sons endeared themselves to McDonald’s with several technical innovations. These items included the meat patty cutting machine and cryogenic freezing chambers. These tools put Otto and Sons a cut above the other meat suppliers that McDonald’s was using.
Eventually Otto and Sons was selected as the primary supplier for the McDonald’s Corporation. The company became known as OSI Industries soon after. OSI eventually began making overseas investments and grew to an international level along with McDonalds.
OSI Industries currently operates in several different regions around the world including the United States, the United Kingdom and the Asia-Pacific. The leaders at OSI continue to push for growth and expansion. This creates opportunities for the 20,000 plus employees that work with the company at present.
OSI has other high end food companies on its client list including Pizza Hut, Papa John’s Pizza, Starbucks and Subway. They distribute a diverse selection of products including ground beef, burger patties, deli meats, poultry, fish and hot dogs.
OSI Industries has been ranked as high as 58 on Forbes largest privately-owned companies list. They received the Globe of Honor Award in 2016 for demonstrating safe practices throughout the organization. The company has implemented a strict quality assurance program that ensures every department within the company is being held to the same standard no matter where it is located in the world.
OSI Industries made several acquisitions in order to expand its reach within the industry. Baho Foods, Flagship Food Group and Tyson Foods for were added to the OSI team. Flagship Food Group and Baho Foods will give OSI Industries the presence it desires in the European region. Tyson Foods is a local food manufacturer in the Chicago area that was looking to close. OSI was able to acquire the company and save nearly 500 jobs from disappearing.
